Thanks, I think I should open an issue instead.

I found a way to reproduce this problem. It seems to be caused by
certain setxkbmap setups rather than window managers. This one
should cause it:

setxkbmap us,ru '' terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,grp:shifts_toggle
