Hi, something else coming to my mind.

If your laptop is equipped with an nVidia Optimus solution (Intel graphics
is the main workhorse, the nVidia graphics is only activated based on
preference settings) then go to your nVidia Control Panel (assuming you're
on WIndows), Choose "Manage 3D settings". Now either explicitly enable
nVidia High Performance Graphics for your compiled binary (by adding it to
the list of programs and making a program specific choice for nVidia
graphics) - or make a global setting to prefer nVidia Graphics over Intel.
The latter option will certainly impact battery life.

As a second recommendation if you're on Optimus: Also update your Intel
graphics drivers. The older these drivers are, the more OpenGL bugs are in
them - I speak from experience. ;)
